Course Description:
This FEMA course is a required course for the Advanced Professional Series (APS) program. This course was designed to train emergency managers, as well as other interested individuals who have no specialized technical background, but can support mitigation efforts as advocates. Course activities and exercises will build the participants’ abilities to: perform the tasks and responsibilities of the emergency manager’s role, create long-term strategies for disaster-resistant communities, identify local mitigation opportunities, select mitigation solutions to hazard risk problems and find resources to carry out mitigation activities in a post-disaster environment.

Target Audience:
Tribal and local government officials, emergency managers, community leaders in such efforts as voluntary organizations, businesses and industries, and other emergency service personnel.

• This course will be delivered online using Microsoft Teams. You are required to have a Microsoft Teams account.

• A link to the course will be sent to the students who are approved to attend.

• Students are required to use an electronic device (not shared with another student) that has a speaker, microphone and camera, as well as internet connection capable of streaming video and audio.

• There will be a designated time that you can log into the course beforehand to test your connection and Microsoft Teams access.

• Course materials will be provided electronically before the beginning of class. No printed materials will be provided. Students should familiarize themselves with the layout and contents of learning materials prior to the beginning of class.

Signup Details
*Enrollment Policy: Students must have the status of “Enrolled” to attend any class or event. Students who are “Waitlisted” or “Pending Approval” will not be allowed to attend the class. If a student needs to cancel enrollment, please do so as early as possible to allow someone on the waitlist to be enrolled.

*Attendance Policy: Students must attend at least 90% of the class to be able to receive credit. Should a student need to miss any portion of the class, they must contact the DEMA Training Branch beforehand for further information.

*This course qualifies for AZ POST continuing training credit. If you are a Law Enforcement Officer & would like to request a POST Certificate, contact the DEMA Training Branch at training@azdema.gov or 602-464-6225 once you have successfully completed this course.
